SPA / CMA note

Some newer Volvos need CANALT wiring

On SPA and CMA platforms, VDD needs access to the low-speed CAN bus for selected functions such as door, lock and window status, parking heater control and remote engine start. This is done with CANALT extension wiring to the OBD port.

Important

CANALT wiring enables access, but the car must still support the feature. Disabled remote start/heater functions may need activation by a PRO / PRO Verified dealer.

P2 MY 1998–2004 note

Some older P2 Volvos need a CEM relay bridge

On Volvo P2 MY 1998–2004 vehicles, VDD needs the OBD socket to remain accessible after the key is removed. For selected functions such as independent heater control, lock and unlock, this requires bridging the relay in the CEM that normally disconnects the OBD socket.

Important

The CEM bridge enables VDD access, but the car must still support the requested function. This is an internal CEM modification and should only be performed carefully by a qualified person.

Frequently asked questions

Will VDD work with my Volvo?

VDD supports the Volvo P1, P2, P3, SPA and CMA platforms. Exact features vary by VIN, model, configuration and vehicle equipment, so check compatibility before ordering.

Do I need a subscription?

Yes, VDD hardware includes 2 months of free subscription; then an active VDD subscription is needed for full service.
You can prolong the subscription in the VDD app or in our e-shop.

What makes VDD different from a generic OBD device?

VDD is built around Volvo-specific connected functions, app access and supported vehicle data rather than only basic universal OBD readings.

Do SPA/CMA cars need extra wiring?

For selected door, lock, window, parking heater and remote start functions, SPA/CMA cars need CANALT wiring so VDD can access the low-speed CAN bus.

Why do some Volvo P2 MY 1998–2004 vehicles need a CEM relay bridge for VDD?

On Volvo P2 MY 1998–2004 vehicles, the OBD socket may be disconnected when the key is removed. VDD needs continued access to the OBD socket to support selected functions such as independent heater control, lock and unlock. Bridging the relay in the CEM allows VDD to remain connected when the car is parked, but the vehicle must still support the requested function. This modification should only be performed carefully by a qualified person.

Can VDD add remote start or heater control to any car?

No. The vehicle must support the function to begin with. If it is disabled, activation may be required by a PRO / PRO Verified dealer.
