iCUP / Android Volvo Security
iCUP / Android Volvo Security
The newer generation of Volvo cars with the Android-based system, also known as iCUP, is equipped with advanced security features and an integrated firewall.
This firewall is handled by the VGM, Vehicle Gateway Module. The VGM manages data communication inside the vehicle and protects the car against unauthorized incoming communication.
Configuration and sending complex specific diagnostic commands require authorization through the vehicle’s security system.
Diagnostic Limitations
Diagnostic Limitations
Due to the VGM security system, VDASH cannot perform vehicle configuration or send complex vehicle-specific diagnostic commands without proper authorization.
What is restricted
Vehicle configuration and complex specific diagnostic commands require authorization through the vehicle security system. Some protected service actions may also depend on the required security access.
What still works
Basic diagnostic functions remain available: reading and clearing DTCs, monitoring live data including pressure values, and basic service functions such as brake service and service interval reset.
VGM PIN and Vehicle Configuration
VGM PIN and Vehicle Configuration
VDASH is unable to decode the VGM PIN.
If you ever obtain the VGM PIN, you can enter it on the D5T5 PIN page. After that, you will be able to decode the CEM PIN and configure your car.
