ECM-U210100: Control Module Configuration Incompatible

Explanation and VDASH configuration guidance for ECM-U210100 on Volvo P2 diesel vehicles after changing the fuel heater configuration.

01 – DTC Overview

ECM-U210100 Fault Description

Trouble Code

ECM-U210100

Control Module Configuration Incompatible. General failure information. No subtype information.

This DTC is usually related to the Volvo P2 diesel platform when the fuel heater configuration has been changed to Fuel Heater – With Timer Only.

02 – Why It Happens

Fuel Heater Configuration Mismatch

The With Timer Only fuel heater setting is normally used on petrol vehicles. On some P2 diesel vehicles, the ECM software may detect this as a configuration mismatch.

In most cases, the vehicle continues to work correctly. The only visible symptom is that ECM-U210100 appears when reading all DTCs through the OBD socket.

03 – VDASH Solution

Recommended VDASH Setting

If you do not want this trouble code to appear, configure the fuel heater setting in VDASH to:

Fuel Heater – With Timer and Additional Heater

Note: This configuration better matches what the diesel ECM software expects and should remove the configuration mismatch DTC.

Final Takeaway

ECM-U210100 on a P2 diesel vehicle is usually caused by a fuel heater configuration mismatch after selecting With Timer Only. The vehicle may still operate normally, but the DTC can remain visible during OBD diagnostics. To avoid this, use VDASH to configure the fuel heater as With Timer and Additional Heater, then clear and recheck DTCs.
