Volvo module repairs

The dashboards of Volvo MY 1999–2007 models S60, V70II, XC70II, S80 and XC90 can show the following problems:

• fast-running clock
• failing gauge needles
• instrument panel switching off
• flashing odometer display
• inoperative high-beam indicator
• garbled text on the information display

These and other combinations usually indicate a defective instrument cluster (DIM), which we can solve immediately by replacing it with a refurbished unit with a 2-year warranty. We replace only the electronics or the whole unit, depending on the customer’s request and available options. Repair can be done through our dealers, by post, or in person.

The dashboards of Volvo MY 2007–2014 models S60II, V60, XC60, V70III, XC70III and S80II can show the following problems:

• inoperative “speaker” – strange sounds when the ignition is switched on, inactive lane-keeping warning
• garbled display
• lines on the display

An occasional problem with Volvo cars of all years and generations. It most commonly affects S80 1999–2000 and P2 models 2003–2006.

We repair it by exchanging it for a refurbished unit that can be prepared as VIRGIN – for installation by an authorized Volvo dealer. Alternatively, the software can be cloned from the old unit – the original unit from the car. Everything can be done by post, in person, or at our dealers.

Symptoms:

• display backlight does not work
• radio does not play
• parking assist does not work
• radio switches itself off after a short time
• car discharges the battery
• in extreme cases, car locking, air conditioning, the instrument panel, airbag system or starting may stop working

A very common fault in 4x4 / AWD cars of all years and generations.

Symptoms:

• rear axle drive is inoperative
• message on the trip computer: “Anti-skid, service recommended” or “Anti-skid, service required”
• car does not start
• car discharges the battery
• car “kicks” when cornering

Most units can be repaired with a 90% success rate. Repair is done by replacing the unit with a refurbished one, if available, and uploading the correct software. An occasional failure on all models and model years. It most commonly affects diesel EURO 4 2,400 ccm 5-cylinder engines and diesel EURO 3 / EURO 4 2,000 ccm 4-cylinder engines.

Symptoms:

• car does not start
• car does not run on all cylinders
• diagnostics reports an atmospheric pressure sensor fault
• no rail pressure is detected
• car does not charge – it charges in emergency mode at 13.5 V and reports a charging fault

An occasional failure on all models and model years. It most commonly affects P2 models from 1999–2007 and cars from 1992–1998.

Symptoms:

• non-functional ABS
• speedometer does not work
• non-functional anti-slip system
• car does not start
• car discharges the battery
• message such as “Brakes, service recommended” or “Brakes, service required” is displayed

An occasional failure on all models and model years. It is most common in P1 cars from 2007–2009 and in P3 cars after a collision and airbag deployment.

Symptoms:

• undeletable SRS-CFFF error
• airbag unit internal memory error
• airbag warning light is on
• trip computer reports “SRS airbag, service recommended” or “SRS airbag, service required”

A very common fault in P2 platform cars from 2005 to 2014.

Symptoms:

• non-functional stability system
• trip computer reports “Anti-skid, service recommended”, “DSTC anti-skid temporarily off”, etc.
• part numbers such as 31313083, 31264469, 1019425 and others

A very common failure on P2 models from 2005–2008, specifically for HU-650 and HU-850 radios.

Symptoms:

• radio does not play
• radio loses frequencies
• screeching, whistling, banging or unpleasant sounds can be heard from the speakers
• radio changes volume by itself
• display is off
• car discharges the battery

An occasional fault on P2 models of all years.

Symptoms:

• central brake light does not work
• fog lights do not work
• parking assist does not work
• 4x4 drive does not work
• rear wiper does not work, etc.

A very common fault for P1 2.0D models from 2007–2009 and P2 2005–2014 models. It usually happens after a discharged battery or alternator malfunction.

Symptoms:

• car does not start
• diagnostics shows 0 registered keys
• CEM or ECM reload cannot be uploaded
• a new key cannot be uploaded
