How to Obtain the CEM / ECM PIN for Your Volvo

To modify the configuration of your vehicle, you will need the CEM (Central Electronic Module) PIN for your Volvo. For example, if you want to add features such as heated seats, activate navigation, remove STOP/START, enable video playback while driving, or enable cruise control, you will need the CEM PIN. Each Volvo has a unique PIN, known only by Volvo Cars, and they will not disclose this PIN to anyone.

However, there are ways to obtain this PIN. The options vary significantly depending on the platform (you can find out how to identify Volvo platforms here: https://d5t5.com/wiki/wiki/article-volvo-platforms)

After obtaining the PIN, you can unlock the options for changing the vehicle configuration but not for tuning. For tuning, a different type of PIN called the ECM PIN (Engine Control Module PIN) is needed on some platforms.

SPA/CMA - (XC40 / S60II / V60II / XC60II / S90 / V90 / V90CC / XC90II)

1/ Decoding CEM PIN via OBD - a new method that is exactly the same as the decoding for P3 - see below. The PIN is decoded within 24 hours. Applicable to all SPA/CMA cars except those with the iCUP / Android system. It is cerommended to decode CEM PIN with Volvo DiCE, Mongoose or SUPER J2534 - you can purchase here in our e-shop: https://d5t5.com/superj2534

2/ To obtain the CEM PIN, you need access to the official Volvo VIDA software. The PIN can be captured when uploading any software to the vehicle. This process is in violation of the Volvo VIDA licensing terms!

3/ Another option is to read the CEM PIN directly from the memory of the processor inside the CEM.

Some of our dealers offer CEM PIN decoding services - learn more from our dealer map: https://d5t5.com/dealers/

To obtain the ECM PIN for SPA/CMA vehicles and upload performance optimization, you need to decode the PIN using our UCBP adapter and VDASH. First, verify on the UCBP page that your engine control unit (its HW number) is supported for optimization loading! Learn more here: https://d5t5.com/article/how-unlock-and-tune-vea-with-vdash-ucbp

P1 - (C30 / S40II / V50 / C70II)

1/ Decode the CEM PIN using VDD: https://d5t5.com/eshop/detail/87/vdd-volvo-function-extender More information on decoding with VDD can be found here: https://d5t5.com/article/vdd-p2-cem-pin-decode

2/ Send us your CEM, which we will decode within 48 hours and send back. The only expense you must cover is shipping and handling!

3/ Find your nearest PRO/Pro Verified dealer on this map: https://d5t5.com/dealers/

For most P1s, an ECM PIN is not needed for engine optimization. For newer models, typically after 2011, it may be necessary. In this case, contact one of our dealers who offer this service: https://d5t5.com/dealers/

P2 - (S60 / V70II / XC70II / S80 / XC90)

1/ For vehicles produced between 2005 and 2012 (except 3.2 6V, 4.4 V8, and 147kW D5 versions), decode the CEM PIN using VDD: https://d5t5.com/eshop/detail/87/vdd-volvo-function-extender More information on decoding with VDD can be found here: https://d5t5.com/article/vdd-p2-cem-pin-decode Alternatively, you can read the CEM memory content using a programmer and upload the BIN file to www.D5T5.com/PIN, and the PIN will automatically be added to the system.

2/ For vehicles produced between 1998 and 2004, the PIN can be read using a BDM programmer for Motorola MC68386 chips. If you can read the contents of the FLASH memory, you can upload the BIN file to www.D5T5.com/PIN, and the PIN will automatically be added to the system.

3/ Send us your CEM, which we will decode within 48 hours and send back. The only expense you must cover is shipping and handling!

4/ Find your nearest PRO/Pro Verified dealer on this map: https://d5t5.com/dealers/

No ECM PIN is needed for performance optimization; you can upload the optimization directly! To find out what performance is possible, enter your vehicle's VIN into the search form on www.D5T5.com and press ENTER.

P3 - (V40II / S60II / V60 / XC60 / V70III / XC70III / S80)

1/ The CEM memory content can be read using a programmer, and the BIN file can be uploaded to www.D5T5.com/PIN. The PIN will automatically be added to the system.

2/ Connect your car to VDASH using DiCE and click on "decode PIN" on the main screen. The entire decoding process can take up to 24 hours but usually takes only 8. You can interrupt the process at any time and resume it later, starting at the last decoded position. The car must be connected to the computer via DiCE and USB throughout the process (not via Bluetooth), with the ignition ON (the car will be in programming mode - all lights and instruments will be off). The car must be connected to a power source with a minimum strength of 12A. A visual guide is provided below this text.

For engine performance optimization, an ECM PIN is always required. Decoding the ECM PIN depends on the engine type and can take up to 24 hours.

Diesel and petrol 5-cylinder engines cannot be decoded online yet - only through a dealer or by sending the ECM unit to our headquarters.
Petrol 6-cylinder and 8-cylinder engines can be decoded using VDASH!
Petrol and diesel 4-cylinder VEA engines can be decoded using UCBP - more information here: https://d5t5.com/article/how-unlock-and-tune-vea-with-vdash-ucbp
